Thursday Hiring Tips #1

Hey there! it's Dan from CCR Search Recruitment Agency with the #ThursdayHiringTips!

As a top talent recruiting agency who provides white glove service to other businesses, finding the perfect fit for them is all about determining whether our candidate’s linen is made of quality or not (and I’m not talking about clothes).

Here are some tips and tricks to find out whether someone is a good fit:

👉 Test to see if they are coachable and have the right analytical skills.

💪 Ask candidates about their experiences working in teams, their willingness to receive feedback, and how they have implemented feedback in the past. Ask about ideas that they have spearheaded, were shot down, and their path forward after a significant setback.

👉 Pre-screen your candidates with a 30-minute video call.

💪 Dig in more on their desires, ideal environment, what's important to them, what do they like/dislike at their current and prior roles. Let them talk, and you'll learn a lot about if they are a cultural fit and align with the needs for the role. Also, pay attention to their body language to see if they'll bring the needed energy to be a top-tier candidate.

👉 Look for commitment to jobs, loyalty, and dig into reasons for job changes:

💪 Look for valid and understandable explanations, such as seeking career growth, pursuing new challenges, or relocating for personal reasons. DO NOT DISQUALIFY CANDIDATES WHO HAVE MOVED FREQUENTLY. Einstein dropped out of high school at 15. Sir Richard Branson bombed with Virgin Cola, Virgin Clothing Line, Virgin Cars, Virgin Digital... and today he is a Knight! I'd hate to be the guy who tells his kids how he interviewed a young Richard Branson and passed on him based on past history.

👉 Here is why it is important to hire the right candidate!

✍ Per Northwestern University and the US Dept. of Labor, "the average cost of a bad hiring decision is at least 30 percent of the individual’s first-year expected earnings."

Did you notice this post is all about soft skill vs hard skills? Hard skills can always be trained and learned on the job, but certain soft skills can be personality-based based and it is an important factor when contributing to company culture, and employee success, and to help avoid a hire costing you 30% of their pay via turnover.

Good luck, happy hunting, and may you and your firm have much success finding the right candidate for your company!
