Candidate Tuesday Tips #2
Hey there! it's Dan from CCR Search Recruitment Agency with the #TuesdayCandidateTips. This week is focused on responding and asking the right questions to common interview questions.
Question 1: “Tell me about your current role and responsibilities”
👉 A way to show your experience is by giving a selection of answers based on your role and asking a question, specifically to gauge if there is anything they want to dive deeper into.
💪 Example response: In my current role, I'm responsible for driving top-line revenue by multi-threading new accounts and buyers in my territory, which I source myself. My goals are to achieve X on an annual basis and I'm currently trending for Y as well as have achieved Z for the quarter. I know you're looking for a hunter, which is exactly what I do and why I applied.
🤘 Follow up with a question: Would you like to dive deeper into my daily process, numbers, or historical background? (This is a good way for you to take control of the interview process).
Question 2: “Why should we hire you?”
👉 Explain how you are qualified to be the best person to do the job with stories, examples, and specific numbers/impacts that are relevant to the details of the job description.
💪 Example response: “My understanding of the role is you are looking for a hunter to penetrate a new territory. You need someone who has proven to be able to do this over their career. This past quarter I landed X new logos, and in 2022 I brought on Y new logos, furthermore I've been a President's club winner for the last 4 years as well as consistently in the top 10% of the sales team. I have had a lot of help from my leadership, internal team, consultants, etc. but I have a long history of success in overachieving numbers and am confident I'd accomplish the same for ABC Company.
🤘 Follow-up question: Based on what I shared, could you see me as a top performer for your org?" Remember, interviews don’t have to feel like interrogations. They can be conversations too, which if you control the interview and move to a conversation, you'll be in a far better position.
Tip: It is okay to flip the questions during the interview! For example, if the interviewer asks “Describe your experience in managing a team and your leadership style." A suitable answer would be to explain your experience and leadership style WHILE also asking about the leadership style of current managers. This is a great way to get a sneak peek of what the work culture looks like.
And remember, always do your research! Even better, find an internal champion at the company you're interviewing. Ask them to get on a call, fill you in on the org, leadership, company challenges, and leverage that info in your interview.
Good luck and may your next interview lead to your dream job!
