Candidate Tuesday Tips #4
Hey there! It’s Dan from CCR Search Recruitment Agency with the #CandidateTuesdayTips.
Here are 12 excellent suggestions from Andrew LaCivita of milewalk Academy on securing that hashtag#executive level position! For all the executives out there, please add any additional suggestions in the comments to help all those looking for their next promotion.
1. Research. Don't ever ask a question you could find in the interview from research you could have gathered prior.
2. You need to know how everything FITS together for the business. I.E. how does the organization integrate with it's customers or partners and ultimately what are all the moving parts of the org to take a product to market. Be the strategic general contractor, not the tactical plumber.
3. Everything you discuss should be centered on the company and not the role. 90% of how you answer or ask questions should be about how you'll influence the organization.
4. It's about how much, not how many. How much of an impact you made to your last org vs how many people you managed as an example. Results are key.
5. It's about the companies future, not your past. What ideas will you bring to the table vs what impacts you made in your past? Help the interviewer envision you in the role vs evaluate you on your past accomplishments.
6. Story sequencing. Start at the macro level and work down to the micro level. Strong executives will focus on evaluation of the offering, strategy to reach the goals, and implementation to execute. Don't start with implementation and be tactical. Start with evaluation and be strategic.
7. Multiple questions. Have your questions ready, have the interviewers expected responses ready, and then have follow up questions ready. Demonstrate that you ask the right questions to be a well informed executive and capable of making great decisions for the org.
8. Show very clearly how you lead by example along with stories to back up why you make great leaders and people follow you.
9. Polished communication. Are you reading the room and demonstrating you're a strong communicator? Not just responding and asking questions, but pivoting when needed to adjust to the conversation.
10. Look the part. Dress for the role. Look like an executive.
11. Positive talk. If you made a mistake previously, address it and discuss what you learned. Don't point a finger and let the conversation turn negative. You always need to understand and demonstrate the positive outcome.
12. Confidence. Display the confidence that you can move the needle and you're the person for the role.
Good luck to all the candidates out there and may you secure the executive role of your dreams in 2023!
